”Success, the Progressive Realisation of a Worthy Ideal’, based on ‘The Strangest Secret’ by Earl Nightingale

You may be an entrepreneur wanting to make a good living through providing a great  service or product, or maybe you want to change or interact with the world through purely benevolent non profit acts.  If so, both you and I are of the same mind. The  goal is the same, we both want to succeed in what we do. This must be a good place to start this WordPress blog then, to gain some inspiration, affirm the things we are doing right, and adress what needs to change.

Issaac Newton said ‘For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction.’  Control and direct your thoughts, and let your mind and imagination soar. Any limits we may percieve are self imposed, and we should behave as if  it were impossible to fail.

‘We become what we think about’  was the ‘Strangest Secret’ that Earl Nightingale wrote about’.  Strange because it is so obvious, and yet most people behave as though they dont know it.

What we focus on and think about the most is what we will manifest in our lives, because we will be drawn to role models, people and situations which will reflect these thoughts.  If we think in negative terms, we will see negative results; if we think in positive terms, we will see positive results.  The mind does not care what seeds you plant, it will return to you what you have sown, every time. Therefore, be very clear about what you are planting and programming your mind with.

Earl Nightingale lists the things which we all have for free;  our minds, our souls, our bodies, our dreams, our ambitions, our intelligence, our love of family, children, friends, our communities, our country. He tells us that we dont always value free things, but covet the things that cost money, even though in reality these do not have as much value.  How true that is now, even 60 years after he wrote it. When we make our goals, what is it that we really want?

‘You are guided by your mind and this has always been the case.’

He proposes that to a large extent, we are exactly where we want to be, whether we admit this or not, and that we can predict our own fortunes. If we want more, we need to increase the service we provide to others, if we want less, then reduce that service, but ultimately we are all in control of our destinies..

Earl Nightingale’s 30 day plan includes these maxims:

  • Go the extra mile and do more than you have to do
  • Keep a cheerful, calm and positive state of mind
  • Give of yourself more than you ever have done.
  • Provide services and products others will find useful, go over and above what is needed.
  • Be of service, build, dream, create
  • Know that your returns in life are in direct proportion to what you give.
  • Your success will always depend on the quality and quantity of the service you render to others.
  • No man can get rich himself unless he enriches others.
  • Lastly, ‘Prosperity and abundance will come to you, not always from where you expect, but it will come to you. There is no exception to this law.’

As far as motivational speakers go, Nightingale was one of the originals but his words are as fresh and relevant as ever.  I hope you will feel refreshed and encouraged by reading them, and I wish you all the best in the fulfillment of your business as well as your personal dreams.

  1. Ah.. basically this is the “law of Attraction” which I follow! You get back in this life what you put out. When you talk of being a victim, you make yourself a victim. When you talk about being lucky, good luck will always be there! Thanks for the reminder that we are what we think

  2. Earl Nightingale offers very good advice. It’s true that we are all where we want to be and only by making changes can we change our standing in life.

  3. Jana, this post is AWESOME! I believe it with no uncertainty…that what we put out there comes back to us. Thank you for your wise words! I will listen to the video later today when I have half and hour. I will share this with a couple friends! Thank you!

    1. Thank you Deanna for your encouraging words, I think he was one of the first motivational speakers, and although the video has been around for a while, it was really a breath of fresh air for me !

  4. Yes, we reap what we sow, and we become what we think about, which is why we should think about things that matter rather than letting our minds wander wherever they want. We also accomplish more in our lives when we focus on how we spend our time.

  5. Hi Jana, thanks for popping over to my site earlier. I also used to live on the edge of Dartmoor, back up in Bath now but Devon is still top of my list for places in the UK. Love the 30 day plan too.

    1. Yes, love Devon too, beautiful countryside, and not too far from London.. you do need to be self employed in the tourist town that i live in, as there is not a lot of work otherwise !
